“Teaching is learning and learning is teaching” –  Manu Sharma

This quote encompasses my experience in the education program so far. When we were in EDCO during the first week the two professors kept repeating this quote throughout our first week. It was one of the first things that I learned in this program and I think it will stick with me for the rest of my career. I believe that as I learn, the students will learn. Especially in my first few years of teaching it will be a lot about trial and error and I think that I will be learning so much from my students. That’s very much what this quote is about. I want to be able to incorporate inquiry based learning into my teaching, and I think that this will also branch off of what this quote represents. Inquiry based learning is all about getting the students to ask questions and inquire about what they are learning. This way they learn by almost teaching themselves. I think that this is the best way for students to learn, and when I was younger I wish that this was more common because I find I do learn better this way rather than standard classroom teaching. Learning by asking questions foster students’ understanding of subjects. I feel that teachers truly learn so much from their students, and being able to use that in a positive way is to learn from them. Just as the students learn from teachers, teachers really do learn from their students.
